About us
Chatterbox
is supported entirely by voluntary contributions. Local groups and organisations
have been generous with their help, various fund-raising activities
are undertaken and we have received generous bequests. Chatterbox is
produced on Thursdays at our own premises at Petersen House, 240 King
Street, Norwich. The telephone here is manned on Thursdays only, from
12 noon, 01603 765365. On other days there is an answer phone. Email:

All Chatterbox helpers are
volunteers. The whole operation of producing the tapes requires 4 teams,
each of 32 helpers, with each team meeting once every 4 weeks.
The production sequence
starts at noon and is usually completed by 9pm, but most volunteers
are there for only about 2 hours of that period, depending on what task
they undertake.
Volunteer
Positions at Chatterbox
You would join a team of 2 or more people, depending which job you do,
on Thursdays once every 4 weeks for about 2 hours.
Wallet Sorters: this
is the first job of the day where you would take returned tapes from
wallets and sort them.
Administration Assistant:
checks off and prepares the wallets to be sent out that session.
Sub-Editor: this
post involves cutting out and editing articles from the Evening News.
Readers: Male and
female readers are required to read prepared items onto tape under the
supervision of:
Sound Recordists:
working with a regular team you would mix live readings with pre-recorded
material to produce a master tape and relevant sub-masters.
Tape Cleaner: each
tape has to be wiped clean ready for the latest edition to be recorded
to it.
Tape Copier: this
role involves mass duplication from the Master tape, around 350 copies
will be made.
Checker: by spot
checking the tapes we can eliminate any that have not duplicated correctly.
Full training is given for
all jobs.
